What this covers
Screening only helps when it is matched to the person. Riverbend builds a written screening schedule for every adult patient based on age, sex, family history and personal risk, and the portal reminds you when something is due. That covers colorectal cancer screening, mammography referral, cervical cancer screening, lung cancer screening for people with a significant smoking history, prostate cancer discussion, skin checks, bone density, hepatitis C and HIV testing, and cardiovascular risk scoring.
We also screen for the things that are easy to miss in a short appointment: depression and anxiety, alcohol use, fall risk in older adults and cognitive change. These are asked routinely so that nobody has to raise them unprompted.
Where a screening test is genuinely a judgement call, such as prostate specific antigen testing, we say so and give you the numbers rather than deciding for you.

Preventive screenings questions
It depends on your age, sex, family history and habits. The point of the annual visit is to turn that into a short, specific list rather than a generic one.
Most preventive screening is covered in full by insurance plans. If a screening test finds something and a follow-up test is needed, that follow-up is usually billed normally. We will tell you when that line is about to be crossed.
Not in the clinic. We arrange stool-based screening here and refer to a Spokane gastroenterology practice for colonoscopy, then track the result.
Results are posted to the portal with a note from your provider. Anything abnormal gets a phone call, not just a message.
